5 Things Every Sink Needs
The sink is the busiest spot in most kitchens. It is where dishes pile up, sponges go soggy and water ends up everywhere except in the basin. The good news is that a calm, tidy sink does not take a renovation. It takes five small tools, each with one clear job.
1. A dish brush with a built-in soap reservoir
A brush that holds its own dish soap means no bottle tipping over by the sink and one less item on your counter. Press, scrub, rinse, done.
2. A faucet extender
Many faucets drop water right at the back of the basin, so it splashes off plates and onto the counter. A simple extender guides the stream further forward, where your hands and dishes actually are. Less splashing means less wiping later.
3. Soft scrub sponges
Keep a few soft scrub pads by the sink for everyday dishes. They are gentle on most surfaces, rinse clean quickly and are easy to replace when they wear out.
4. A microfiber cloth
One good cloth replaces a stack of paper towels. Microfiber absorbs quickly and dries fast, which makes it ideal for wiping counters and drying the sink area at the end of the day. Wash it regularly and skip the fabric softener so it stays absorbent.
5. A steel wire cleaning cloth
Some residue simply will not move with a sponge. A steel wire cloth handles the stubborn spots on pots and pans. Keep it for sturdy cookware only, and never use it on non-stick or delicate surfaces.
The two-minute nightly reset
Once the tools have a home, keeping the sink tidy is quick:
- Rinse the brush and cloths and stand them up to dry.
- Wipe the faucet and the edge of the sink.
- Dry the counter around the sink with the microfiber cloth.
That is it. Two minutes, and you wake up to a clean starting point.
